I feel very successful as the writer of Yonder Road.
In just a few years I’ve driven about fifty percent of my readers off into the weeds.
I’m not really a marketing guy, but my analytics seem to be heading south rather than north. I think north is better than south?
I’ve been canceled, ignored, marginalized, smashed, crushed, dropped and smeared (and that’s my close friends - yikes!)
Was it something I said?
I had one loving christian soul call me on the phone to tell me, “I’m really concerned for you - I think your in danger of going to HELL!”
HELL - that’s a pretty heavy thing to say - geez.
Wow! Thanks for the encouragement dude.
And that’s not the only person that felt it “helpful” to share their views.
Ah, the joy of putting something out into the public arena. It’s akin to having a prostate exam using a keyboard!
All I can think is, “I must be hitting the sweet spot in my writing. If this many folks are that angry, I must be doing something right.”
This is the kind of thing you tell yourself when your readership is falling faster than a meteor!
Oh well.
I’m trying to review some of my past posts to find those radical, offensive statements. You know, those statements that would cause good christian souls to blow a gasket.
Maybe it was when I said, “The whole Bible is about the magnificence of man. And never been about what’s wrong with man.”
Or maybe, “Sin, disobedience, unholy, unrighteous…are all a fourth century mistranslations of the scriptures. THERE IS NO SIN!”
And I can prove it! I’m no Hebrew and Greek scholar, but this is pretty simple stuff.
Wow! I bet that’s the one that really got me shunned faster than an Amish guy attending an AC/DC concert.
I forgot how attached the christian community is to the concept of SIN.
My bad.
I mean, if you take SIN out of the equation what do you have left. You may find the whole narrative falling apart, then what do you have?
I understand.
It’s hard to face. So hard that most lovely christian souls dismiss everything I say without giving it any serious focus and attention.
Without SIN you have to ask yourself the next BIG question.
No one wants to hear the truth of the BIG question.
No wonder everyone is so pissed.
I really understand.
I had to face the BIG question myself.
It took me months to work it through.
I keep saying the scriptures are beautiful, the story is better than you think. Again, the scriptures are talking about the magnificence of man - the unlimited presence of God in man. The creative ability of God in man.
When someone says to you, “The bible clearly says!”
Run for your life.
If you’re reading our current latin to english translations your getting nada!
The bible is beautiful, the bible is truth - but it doesn’t say what you think it says.
I understand.
Of course this post is not meant to be all inclusive. But if someone really wants to get the straight skinny I’m happy to share. I think most christians are so invested that they’re not really interested in hearing what their book really says.
Oh well.
People fear change.
I understand.
I really understand.
What a bitch if SIN has to go in the trash can.
No more bad coffee in the narthex!
See You Down Yonder Road
…Amish at an AC/DC concert??? Snarking coffee out my nose right now.
No need to worry about going to HELL for you my friend. I think it will probably be a cold day there before you ever find yourself sitting in a Sunday service in one of Bozeman’s best Evangelical Assemblies…I think you’re safe bro
As long as you keep complimenting the barista for her fine foam design I am willing to.listen. Sort of miss the Roly Poly talk though. As Frosty Westering used to do...keep looking for those people who need just a touch of humanity in everyday little situations because I know what it is like blowing the big opportunities! Will see you in Bozeman down the line.
